What a winter!!

After yet another long ass wait for me to write something else on the blog...I am once again back and ready to share some words of wisdom to all the people who fail to read what I write. I can't wait to get out on the water this year because we have gotten so much fucking snow this winter I have a great feeling in my bones that this is going to be a year for the record books. I know Ducky must be thinking the same thing. We have waited for over a decade for snow like this to raise the murky waters of the Bigfork into legendary levels. I can't believe that the one time, when it was only Ducky and I on the trip, we had a water level that was so high I couldn't stand in the canoe when we went under bridiges because the bridge would have caught me in the chest and it happened to be the only year that we didn't bring a camera. I shouldn't say that because in the early years we didn't have a camera, just a shit-load of booze. Nevertheless, that year it was only her and I is the year I regret the most not having a camera. But like I was saying, this year we may just have that water level like we did so many years ago.

I am praying that our spring take a little while to get here because that will translate into a high river level, that and a whole lot of rain. The snow has been crazy this year. We have gotten more snow this year than I think in the last four years combined. Needless to say the Memorial Weekend Canoe trip has been heavy in my mind for the last few weeks. Although I have only really talked with Em about the trip, and a touch with Digger the other night, I think this may be the year we try to make the Bigfork to the Doons run we were so fond of several years ago.

With a great river level we will have a wonderful current that is going to do a lot of the work for us. We should be able to cover the fifteen miles or so from Bigfork to the Busti campsite on the first day of the run. Then it will be a short seven mile trip to the Doons the next day where we can enjoy two nights at our beloved campsite. I know it has been nice not having to get up on the last day of the trip, load all our shit into the canoes, paddle through the Doons and then pull out at the North Busti Bridige, but I don't really give a rip. I want us to go back to our old site and have a good old time like we have done so many times before. Yet there is still one problem.

The last time we were at the Doons we had been beat by a group of local goons that happened to be canoeing that weekend. We didn't get our regular spot so we made camp at the start of the Doons like we did on the second year of the trip. This year, if we are the first to make it, we need to decide if we are going to haul the shit up the fucking hill or stay at the bottom. However, if the river is like it was that one year, we will be forced to camp at the top because the bottom will be flooded...I think. Then again, if it isn't flooded, do we stay or do we haul. Part of me doesn't want to have to haul the shit, but the other half wants the good campsite that overlooks the rapids. If we do stay at the top, I think one of our little projects should be to clear some of the brush that is blocking the view. We should make it majestic for all that travel the river.

As we draw closer to this years excursion, like always, I will be visiting this blog more and more adding stories from years past and continuing ones that I have already started. I just hope some people will find it upon themselves to search for this blog and read some of what we have done.

Until next time I will remain...Crazy Joe
